Betty Lou Baker (1928-1987) was the recipient of the Western Heritage Award (1963, 1970), the Western Writers Award (1968, fiction), and the Children's Book Showcase Award (1977). Baker focused on historical fiction about the U.S. Southwest; many of her books were based on historical facts, or Native American histories, legends, or myths.
